Whiteboys
Die Whiteboys waren eine geheime irische Agrarorganisation im Irland des 18. Jahrhunderts, die eine gewalttätige Taktik verwendete, um die Landwirte für die Subsistenzwirtschaft zu verteidigen. Ihr Name stammt von den weißen Kitteln, die die Mitglieder in ihren nächtlichen Überfällen trug, aber die Whiteboys wurden gewöhnlich damals als Leveller von den Behörden und von sich selbst als "Königin Sive Oultaghs Kinder", "Feen" oder als Anhänger von "Johanna Meskill" oder "Sheila Meskill", alle symbolischen Figuren sollen die Bewegung führen. Sie suchten Rack-Mieten, Zehntausendungen, übertriebene Priesterbeiträge, Räumungen und andere drückende Handlungen anzurufen. Infolgedessen zielten sie auf Vermieter und Zehnte Sammler. Im Laufe der Zeit wurde Whiteboyism ein allgemeiner Begriff für ländliche Gewalt, der mit geheimen Gesellschaften verbunden war. Wegen dieser Verallgemeinerung ist die historische Aufzeichnung für die Whiteboys als eine spezifische Organisation unklar. Es gab drei große Ausbrüche von Whiteboyism: 1761-64; 1770-76; Und 1784-86.
