Zamia
Zamia ist eine Gattung von Cycad der Familie Zamiaceae mit etwa 50 Arten, die in Nord-, Mittel- und Südamerika heimisch sind. Arten kommen so weit nördlich wie Georgien in den Vereinigten Staaten bis weit südlich wie Bolivien. Zamia furfuracea Blätter Die Gattung umfasst Laubbäume mit Luft- oder Unterirdischen kreisförmigen Stämmen, die oft oberflächlich Palmen ähneln. Sie produzieren spiralförmig arrangierte, gefiederte Blätter, die pubertierend sind, zumindest wenn jung, mit verzweigten und einfachen, transparenten und farbigen Haaren. Die artikulierten Blättchen fehlen eine Mittelrippe und sind breit mit subparalleler dichotomer Venation. Untere Blättchen sind nicht auf Stacheln reduziert, obwohl die Stiele oft Stacheln haben. Die auftauchenden Blätter von vielen Zamia-Arten sind auffallend, einige, die mit einem rötlichen oder Bronze-Guss auftauchen. Zamia picta ist noch ausgeprägter und ist der einzige wirklich bunte Cycad. Zamia Sporophylle sind in vertikalen Reihen in Zapfen geboren, und die Megasporophyll-Spitzen sind facettiert oder abgeflacht, nicht Spinose. Die fleischigen Samen sind subglobulär zu länglich oder ellipsoidal und sind rot, orange, gelb oder selten weiß. Das Endosperm ist haploid, abgeleitet vom weiblichen Gametophyten.
