Sultan
Sultan ist ein islamischer Titel mit historischer Bedeutung. Ursprünglich war dieses Wort ein arabisches abstraktes Substantiv, das "Stärke", "Macht" oder "Regierungsposition" bedeutet. Später werden diese Worte als islamische Herrscher verwendet, die eine Souveränität fordern, ohne das Kalifat als Ganzes zu bestimmen. Das Wort Sultan hat dann in bestimmten Kontexten mehrere Bedeutungen. Die Dynastien und Gebiete, die vom Sultan regiert werden, werden das Sultanat genannt.
