Blindenschrift oder Blindenschrift ist ein Lesesystem mit Berührung für die Blinden, erfunden von der Französisch Louis Braille im Jahr 1827 in Paris. Braille ist ein herkömmliches Alphabet, dessen Zeichen durch erhabene Punkte angezeigt werden. Der Sehbehinderte zeichnet sich durch Berührung aus. Von den sechs relevanten Punkten aus können 63 Kombinationen erstellt werden, die einfache und akzentuierte Buchstaben, Noten, Zahlen, mathematische Zeichen und Noten darstellen können. Louis Braille verlor im Alter von drei Jahren sein Augenlicht. Vier Jahre später trat er in das Institut der Blinden in Paris ein. 1827, im Alter von achtzehn Jahren, wurde er Professor an diesem Institut. Als er von einem System von Punkten und Löchern erfuhr, das ein Offizier erfand, um nachts Nachrichten zu lesen, wo es gefährlich wäre, das Licht einzuschalten, nahm er einige Anpassungen am System der erhabenen Punkte vor und veröffentlichte 1829 seine Methode. Als wirklich effektives System wurde es schließlich populär. Die einfache und geniale Methode, die von Braille entwickelt wurde, macht das geschriebene Wort heute Millionen von Sehbehinderten zugänglich, dank der entschlossenen Bemühungen dieses Jungen vor fast 200 Jahren.

O Braille é um alfabeto convencional cujos caracteres se indicam por pontos em alto relevo. O deficiente visual distingue por meio do tato. A partir dos seis pontos relevantes, é possível fazer 63 combinações que podem representar letras simples e acentuadas, pontuações, números, sinais matemáticos e notas musicais. Louis Braille perdeu a visão aos três anos. Quatro anos depois, ele ingressou no Instituto de Cegos de Paris. Em 1827, então com dezoito anos, tornou-se professor desse instituto. Ao ouvir falar de um sistema de pontos e buracos inventado por um oficial para ler mensagens durante a noite em lugares onde seria perigoso acender a luz, ele fez algumas adaptações no sistema de pontos em alto relevo, e em 1829 publicou o seu método. Sendo um sistema realmente eficaz, por fim tornou-se popular. Hoje, o método simples e engenhoso elaborado por Braille torna a palavra escrita disponível a milhões de deficientes visuais, graças aos esforços decididos daquele rapaz há quase 200 anos.
