Bor
Bor ist ein chemisches Element mit der Ordnungszahl 5 und dem chemischen Symbol B. Bor ist ein halbes Metall. Es ist ein kostengünstiges Element sowohl im Sonnensystem als auch in der Erdhülle. Aufgrund der Wasserlöslichkeit der in der Natur vorkommenden Verbindungen kann es jedoch an bestimmten Stellen mit hoher Dichte vorliegen. Diese Mineralien werden als Borax und Kernit aus dem Boden gewonnen. Elementares Bor kommt nicht in der Natur vor. Hochreines Bor kann industriell erhalten werden, da es Verbindungen mit Bor, Kohlenstoff und anderen Elementen bildet. Das Rohr hat verschiedene Allotrope: amorphes Bor ist ein dunkelbraunes Pulver; Kristallbor ist schwarz, extrem hart und hat bei Raumtemperatur eine geringe Leitfähigkeit. Elementares Bor wird als Dotierstoff in der Halbleiterindustrie verwendet. Hochreines elementares Bor ist die wichtigste Komponente der Supraleiter-MgB2-Technologie. Es gibt 4 bedeutende elementare Bor-Produzenten auf der Welt: H.C. Starck, S.B. Bor-, Thronox- und Pavezymchemie. Die hauptsächlichen Verwendungen der Borverbindungen sind Borax im Wäschepulver und Boraxkomponente der Glasfaser, die zur Wärmeisolierung verwendet wird.
