Porto Stadt liegt in der Mündung des Rio Douro im Norden Portugals. In der Volkszählung von 2005 ist es die Hauptstadt des Landes mit der Bevölkerung von 327.539 (die Gesamtbevölkerung der Stadt Porto ist 1.610.539), der wichtigste industrielle Punkt des Landes und derselbe Name. Das Stadtzentrum an der Nordseite des Flusses Rio Doura wurde 1996 von der Unesco in die Liste des Weltkulturerbes aufgenommen. Die Siedlung der Stadt stammt aus hunderten von Jahren, als das Römische Reich eine Polizeistation war. Es ist bekannt, dass der Name des Namens der Quelle (Portugal (Englisch)) Portus Cale ist. Das bekannteste Exportprodukt von Porto ist der Porto-Wein. Zu den Rebsorten, die für diesen besonderen Wein angebaut werden, gehören Weinberge, die entlang des Flusses Rio Doura angebaut werden. 1756 wird das Recht der Rebsorten, die bei der Herstellung von Porto-Wein verwendet werden, und die Rezeptur des Weins beibehalten. Região Demarcada do Douro (DOC) besteht aus drei Teilregionen. Das sind Baixo Corgo, Cima Corgo und Doura Superior. Die Stadt Porto wurde von 71 bis 997 von Muslimen kontrolliert, und 1130 wurden die Kreuzzüge von dem ersten portugiesischen König, Afonso I Henriques, ins Leben gerufen.

Şehrin yerleşimi Roma İmparatorluğu'nun bir karakolu olduğu yüzyıllar öncesine dayanıyor. Adının (Portugal (İngilizce)) kaynağının latince adı Portus Cale, olduğu bilinir. Porto'nun en bilinen ihraç malı Porto şarabı'dır. Bu özel şarap için yetiştirilen üzüm çeşitleri, Rio Doura nehri boyunca yetiştirilen üzüm bağlarını kapsamaktadır. 1756'da çıkarılan bir yasayla Porto şarabın üretiminde kullanılan üzüm çeşidi ve şarabın tarifi korunmaktadır.
