Aerotriangulation is the term triangulation from the air in photogrammetry. The detection of several prominent points from several directions by wide overlapping aerial images allows the calculation of the relative position of both these nodes as well as the camera positions. The method allows the bridging of wide spaces in which there are no terrestrally measured points or control points, while achieving an accuracy of a few centimeters per kilometer. Aerotriangulation was developed in the 1950s and was first evaluated with special projectors, optical-mechanical stereoautographs, and partly also graphically in developing countries. Then the stereoautographic method was converted to graphical data processing and further developed for bundle block adjustment.

Als Aerotriangulation wird in der Fotogrammetrie die Triangulation aus der Luft bezeichnet. Die Erfassung von mehreren markanten Punkten aus jeweils mehreren Richtungen durch breit überlappende Luftbilder erlaubt die Berechnung der relativen Lage sowohl dieser Knotenpunkte als auch der Kamerapositionen. Die Methode ermöglicht die Überbrückung weiter Räume, in denen keine terrestrisch eingemessenen Festpunkte oder Passpunkte vorhanden sind, und erreicht dabei eine Genauigkeit von einigen Zentimetern pro Kilometer. Die Aerotriangulation wurde in den 1950er-Jahren entwickelt und zunächst mit speziellen Projektoren, optisch-mechanischen Stereoautografen ausgewertet, in Entwicklungsländern teilweise auch graphisch. Dann wurde das stereoautographische Verfahren auf graphische Datenverarbeitung umgestellt und zur Bündelblockausgleichung weiterentwickelt.
