Lanzettfischchen

Lanzettfischchen

The representatives of the families Asymmetronidae and Branchiostomatidae from the order Amphioxiformes are designated lancet fish. According to today's knowledge, they are the only recent craniosis. The lancet fish are often referred to as "amphioxus". Amphioxus is an outdated synonym of the genus Branchiostoma. It is used, especially in the Anglo-Saxon language, alongside lancelet as a trivial name. The last common ancestors of lancetfish and vertebrate animals lived about 550 million years ago.
