Annotation means "note", "addition", "addition". In this sense, annotations in the case of key words, definitions or detailed texts have the character of the explanation or supplement. Annotations hold things that are not considered essential to the main keyword or the main text, but are important additional information. They are, after all, worthy of being explicitly held, and in this way the designated contents get a place in the order of the whole without disturbing the structure or interrupting the meaning line of the statement.

Annotation bedeutet „Anmerkung“, „Beifügung“, „Hinzufügung“. In diesem Sinn haben Annotationen bei Stichworten, Begriffsklärungen oder ausführlichen Texten den Charakter der Erklärung beziehungsweise Ergänzung. Annotationen halten Dinge fest, die zwar nicht als wesentlich für das Hauptstichwort oder den Haupttext erachtet werden, aber wichtige Zusatzinformationen darstellen. Sie sind es immerhin wert, ausdrücklich festgehalten zu werden, und auf diese Weise erhalten die bezeichneten Inhalte einen Platz in der Ordnung des Ganzen, ohne die Struktur zu stören oder die Sinnlinie der Aussage zu unterbrechen.
