bat Guano
Fledermausguano or chiropterite is a special form of guano, which is not produced by birds, but by bats such as the mouse ear. The substance formed from the excrement of the animals in caves in often large quantities is extracted, among other things, in countries such as Italy, Spain, the United States and Egypt and marketed as a particularly rich nitrogenous fertilizer. Fledermausguano is recognizable by the contained wing covers of insects, at its comparatively particularly low pH as well as a relatively high urea content. It consists of about 9 percent nitrogen, 1.5 to about 2 percent phosphoric acid alkalis and 3 percent phosphoric acid. Fledermausguano is used by home and amateur gardeners to fertilize vegetable beds. The removal of bat guano is not uncontroversial, since it leads to a considerable disturbance of the bats and the bat guano itself represents a unique habitat for numerous vertebrate.
