Gloucester is a city in the south-west of England, near the border with Wales. In 2012 the population was 123,439 inhabitants. Gloucester is the traditional administrative seat of the County of Gloucestershire. Along with neighboring Cheltenham, the town is home to the University of Gloucestershire. Gloucester itself is located on the left, the eastern bank of the Severn, about 185 kilometers west-west of London. It is surrounded by the Cotswolds to the east, while the Malvern Hills and the Forest of Dean rise to the west and north-west. Gloucester has a port connecting the Gloucester and Sharpness ship channel with the ship on the Severn. This allows ships to reach the docks despite the tidal range of the river. Until the 1980s, the former port of the town fell into disrepair with the warehouses and stores until the renewal of the district brought life back into the district. In the meantime, the National Waterways Museum, an anchor point of the European Route of Industrial Culture, as well as numerous high-quality apartments, shops and bars.

Gloucester selbst liegt am linken, dem östlichen Ufer des Severn, etwa 185 Kilometer in westnordwestlicher Richtung von London. Es wird umgeben von den Cotswolds im Osten, während die Malvern Hills und der Forest of Dean sich im Westen und Nordwesten erheben. Gloucester besitzt einen Hafen, der den Gloucester und Sharpness Schiffskanal mit der Schiffung auf dem Severn verbindet. Damit wird es Schiffen ermöglicht, trotz des Tidenhubs des Flusses, die Docks zu erreichen. Bis in die 1980er Jahre hinein verfiel das frühere Hafenviertel mit den Lagerhäusern und Speichern, bis schließlich die Erneuerung des Stadtteils wieder Leben in das Viertel brachte. Inzwischen ist hier auch das National Waterways Museum untergebracht, ein Ankerpunkt der Europäischen Route der Industriekultur sowie zahlreiche hochwertige Appartements, Geschäfte und Bars.
