It is named after the Latin name of the city of Copenhagen, Hafnia, in which the element was discovered. It is a transition metal that is shiny, corrosion-resistant, which is silver-gray, which in the periodic system is in the 4th subgroup or titanium group. Hafnium has very similar properties to the zirconium located directly above it in the periodic system. Biological functions are not known; it is normally not present in the human organism and is not toxic. Hafnium besitzt sehr ähnliche Eigenschaften wie das im Periodensystem direkt darüber gelegene Zirconium. Biologische Funktionen sind nicht bekannt, es kommt normalerweise nicht im menschlichen Organismus vor und ist nicht toxisch.
