hypertrichosis

Hypertrichose

Hypertrichosis or hypertrichosis is defined as the symptom of a hairy coat that goes beyond the usual degree of gender-specific hairiness, or a hairiness in otherwise always unhaired areas. Hypertrichosis may be localized in some places, or may affect the entire body except the soles of the feet and palms. The latter can occur as a congenital syndrome in the continuation of the fetal lanugo hair and then offers the medical history of the so-called "wolf man". This form is inherited autosomal dominant and therefore occurs in a family-oriented manner. The Lanugo hair can also reappear after birth as an acquired form; This is very rarely the case in the case of cancer diseases as a so-called paraneoplastic syndrome, especially in the case of visceral tumors. A congenital form of localized hypertrichosis is an intensified, partial hairs similar to the head hair above the cranium. This is the case in diseases in which the neural tube has not been completely closed in embryonic development, such as, for example, the spina bifida.
