Nervenfaser

Nerve fibers are the processes of a nerve cell enveloped by glial cells, for example the axon of a nerve cell with its myelin sheath. In the peripheral nervous system, several nerve fibers are usually combined into nerves by additional connective tissue sheaths. Als Nervenfaser bezeichnet man den von Gliazellen umhüllten Fortsatz einer Nervenzelle, beispielsweise das Axon einer Nervenzelle mitsamt seiner Myelinscheide. Im peripheren Nervensystem sind mehrere Nervenfasern zumeist durch zusätzliche bindegewebige Hüllen zu Nerven zusammengefasst.
