Mineralisation

Mineralization, also known as mineral formation, describes the transformation of substances into inorganic substances in biology and geology. In biology, the starting materials are restricted to organic substances. In biology and medicine, mineralization is, on the one hand, the decomposition of complex organic compounds to low molecular weight, inorganic substances by microorganisms, For example in the tooth area, caries is such a process. On the other hand, this is the step-wise deposition of these inorganic substances, usually into an organic matrix. Bones arise in this way, as well as teeth, see eg. Retzius. In geology and chemistry, mineralization or mineralization is generally understood to mean the conversion to solid inorganic substances, for example impregnation is mineralization from inorganic solutions. The mineralization of water contaminants or CO2 mineralization is also part of this. In geology and chemistry - in connection with soil science - mineralization, but mostly mineralization, is used for the degradation of organic substances into inorganic substances.
