WHAT DOES MONOTHELETISMUS MEAN IN GERMAN?
Monothelitism
Monotheletism is a christological doctrine, according to which Christ has two natures - a divine and a human - but only one will. Christ had a human nature, but his will was fully dictated by God. It was developed at the beginning of the seventh century under the emperor Herakleio, to reconcile the doctrine of two instances of Christ, established at the Council of Chalcedon, with the monophysical doctrine. The monophysites were to be re-integrated into the Reichskirche from which they had previously been excommunicated. Despite the sympathies of the emperor and the pope Honorius I, the monotheletism of both the East and the West Church was ultimately rejected and not accepted by the monophysites. Maximus the Confessor was particularly keen on this doctrine. At the third council of Constantinople in the year 680, doctrine was condemned as heresy, and the doctrine to this day was given that Christ has a will to each of his two natures, and the human will is subordinated to divine will.
Definition of Monotheletismus in the German dictionary
