WHAT DOES MORPHALLAXIS MEAN IN GERMAN?

Regeneration (biology)

Regeneration is the ability of an organism to replace lost parts. Plants are able to do this, but also very many invertebrate animals such as various nettles, ascidians, Ä. Among the vertebrate animals, the ability to regenerate organs and tissues has been largely lost. Amphibians such as, Such as the newt or axolotl, are able to regenerate lost limbs, eyes and also parts of internal organs. The ability of some reptiles, such as the lizards, to drop their tail at a fracture site by muscular contraction, and then to regain it, is rare among vertebrate animals. In the arthropods, the ability to partially replace lost parts during the next moulting is widespread. In this case, each moulting is replaced by a piece more than in the previous moulting, so that, in the case of a sufficiently large number of moistening, body parts can also be completely replaced.

Definition of Morphallaxis in the German dictionary

Replacement of lost body parts by reshaping and relocating already existing parts.
