Pax Romana

Pax Romana

The expression Pax Romana denotes an aspect of the ideological ideology of the Roman Empire; The concept is identical with the Augustan peace. Based on the Pax Augusta of Emperor Augustus, who had ended the civil war and established a monarchy, the program included inner peace and the security of the borders, but not the absence of aggression and expansion. There was a stabilization of the state: the Reich continued to face external dangers, such as the Germans on the Rhine and the Danube, and the Parthians in the East; In the interior, however, the cultural and economic life flourished, with the population largely isolated from the external dangers. Many cities had no walls. Only after the death Mark Aurels and strengthened then in the time of the realm crisis of the 3rd century repeatedly stronger groups of enemies broke into the realm. In Late Antiquity, only a partial stabilization succeeded before the western empire finally collapsed in the fifth century.
