Pentosen

Pentoses are monosaccharides whose carbon backbone contains five carbon atoms. They all have the sum formula C5H10O5 and differ by the type of carbonyl function. If it is a ketone group, it is referred to as ketopentosis, in an aldehyde group it is called aldopentosis. Pentosen sind Monosaccharide, deren Kohlenstoffgrundgerüst fünf Kohlenstoff-Atome enthält. Sie haben alle die Summenformel C5H10O5 und unterscheiden sich durch die Art der Carbonyl-Funktion. Handelt es sich um eine Keton-Gruppe, so spricht man von Ketopentosen, bei einer Aldehyd-Gruppe nennt man sie Aldopentosen.
