WHAT DOES PERSEVERATION MEAN IN GERMAN?

perseveration

Perseveration is understood to mean the morbid persistence, the persistence or the after-effects of psychic impressions, the persistence of ideas or persistent repetition of movements or words even in an inappropriate context. In psychopathology, perseveration is a typical symptom of formal mental disturbance in various mental disorders, and often accompanied by further formal mental disorders. Often it occurs in Alzheimer's disease, autism, schizophrenia, obsessive-compulsive disorder and, for example, in frontal brain syndrome and epilepsy. Also in ADHD, perseverations occur very often: in this context, however, the term hyperfocus is often used instead, which according to some experts is rather misleading and factually not quite correct. Also, perseverations of action sequences and individual movements due to damage to the central nervous system can be observed. Here they are often observed in combination with apraxia of all kinds.
