Prostratio, also prostration or prosternation, is understood in the Catholic, Anglican and Orthodox liturgies as the prostration of a person in the altar space as a sign of humility and devotion. This rite occurs before ▪ on Good Friday at the beginning of the celebration of the suffering and dying of Christ. After the entry, priests and deacons prosper, the other believers kneel in memory of the suffering and death of Jesus. ▪ Bishops, priest and deacon ordinations in Weiheliturgien: the candidates throw themselves before the altar before their consecration, while the All Saints' Day is sung. All the others kneel. ▪ in the same way in the solemn profession and in the consecration of the Virgin. The professors and protagonists are prospering during the song of the All Saints' Day. Alle anderen knien. ▪ in gleicher Weise bei der feierlichen Profess und bei der Jungfrauenweihe. Die Professen bzw. Kandidatinnen prosternieren sich während des Gesangs der Allerheiligenlitanei. Alle anderen knien. Die entsprechende Niederwerfung in der orthodoxen Tradition wird Metanie genannt.
