relativism

Relativismus

Relativism, occasionally also relativism, is a philosophical line of thought which regards the truth of statements, demands, and principles as always conditioned by something else, and denies absolute truths. So that every statement is based on conditions, the truth of which, on the other hand, is conditioned by conditions, and so on. These framework conditions also enable the statement to be changed and negotiated. Relativists often justify this with the epistemological argument that a secure knowledge of the world is impossible. Others refer to the composite character of truths which always refer to other truths. Ethical relativists reject the idea of absolute ethical values and different partial flows, which lead to different consequences. Some ethical relativists assume that ultimately all ethical values and statements about the world are equally true. Others argue that some statements are more true or correct than others.
