sorption

Sorption

Sorption is a collective term for processes which lead to an accumulation of a substance within a phase or on a boundary between two phases. The accumulation within a phase is called more accurate absorption, which is at the interface adsorption. In 1909, James William McBain introduced the term "sorption" for processes in which it is not possible to make a clear distinction between ad and absorption. The sorbent is called sorbent, the sorbent or the sorbent. The substance, which has not yet been sorbed, is called sorptive, while it is called adsorpt, or absorpt, after the sorption. The system consisting of a substance or substances embedded in it together with the sorption agent is referred to as sorbate.
