stridulation

Stridulation

As a stridulation, a special form of pure production in insects and spiders is designated by rubbing two mutually movable body parts. Frequently, for the purpose of generating the sound, the edges of the shadows are swept over the shadows. The result is a scratching, humming, hissing or chirping sound. Mostly, the crashed edges are shaped by wing loaders or limbs, and the faces of the wings or other surfaces of the body are used as shrill surfaces. Stridulation occurs with very many insect groups; The chirping is particularly well-known in the long- and short-fright fright as well as in different beetles. In the case of spiders, the lute is usually produced with the pedipalps, either by rubbing the pedipalps at the edges of the shoulders, or by drumming with the palms or the legs on the substrate. Some species, For example, giant crab spiders, produce sounds through the vibrations of the body on the support. Spider webs, documents and sheets, etc. are used as resonance trays.
