Suede is the name for a textile product with a fluffy surface. The following are differentiated according to the type of surface material for the suede: ▪ Fabrics with cut-to-size loops ▪ Knitted fabrics whose roughened surface assumes a velvety-like quality ▪ Velorstuft, with which needled loops are separated ▪ Suede leather by which the leather fibers are set up by roughening. ▪ Velor fleece, needle fleece, in which the fibers are placed by means of a diluter machine. In the case of velor fabrics, the loops are cut open after weaving, and then stand at right angles to the fabric. This standing pile is longer than in the velvet, which is otherwise made the same. On the plush, the pile is even longer. The velor carpet is tufting, a needled textile, in which the slings are cut open. The longer the pile, the softer the textile, but the pile threatens to buckle permanently. Unterschieden wird bei den Veloursarten nach dem Typ der Flächenware: ▪ Gewebe mit aufgeschnittenen Schlingen ▪ Gewirke, dessen Oberfläche durch Aufrauung eine samtähnliche Qualität annimmt ▪ Velourstuft, bei dem genadelte Schlaufen aufgetrennt werden ▪ Veloursleder, bei dem durch Aufrauen die Lederfasern aufgestellt werden. ▪ Veloursvlies, Nadelvlies, bei dem die Fasern durch eine Dilourmaschine aufgestellt sind Bei Velours-Gewebe werden nach dem Weben die Schlingen aufgeschnitten und stehen dann rechtwinklig vom Gewebe ab. Dieser aufstehende Flor ist länger als beim Samt, der ansonsten gleich hergestellt wird. Beim Plüsch ist der Flor noch länger. Bei Velours-Teppich handelt es sich um Tufting, ein genadeltes Textil, bei dem die Schlingen aufgeschnitten sind. Je länger der Flor, desto weicher wird das Textil, dafür droht der Flor dauerhaft abzuknicken. Bei Sitzbezügen äußert sich das als Sitzspiegel, bei Teppichen entstehen Spuren, wenn z. B. ein Tisch längere Zeit am selben Ort steht.
