WHAT DOES AMBERGRIS MEAN IN ENGLISH?

ambergris

Ambergris

Ambergris is a solid, waxy, flammable substance of a dull grey or blackish colour produced in the digestive system of sperm whales. Freshly produced ambergris has a marine, fecal odour. However, as it ages, it acquires a sweet, earthy scent commonly likened to the fragrance of rubbing alcohol without the vaporous chemical astringency. Although ambergris had been highly valued by perfumers as a fixative, it has largely been replaced by synthetics.

Definition of ambergris in the English dictionary

The definition of ambergris in the dictionary is a waxy substance consisting mainly of cholesterol secreted by the intestinal tract of the sperm whale and often found floating in the sea: used in the manufacture of perfumes.
