WHAT DOES EMISSIVITY MEAN IN ENGLISH?

Emissivity

The emissivity of a material is the relative ability of its surface to emit energy by radiation. It is the ratio of energy radiated by a particular material to energy radiated by a black body at the same temperature. A true black body would have an ε = 1 while any real object would have ε < 1. Emissivity is a dimensionless quantity. In general, nonmetals exhibit high emissivity, whereas metals vary greatly depending on the type of metal and its surface condition. Metals with highly polished surfaces tend to exhibit low emissivities, whereas roughened, oxidized metals tend to exhibit higher ones. For example, highly polished silver has an emissivity of about 0.02. Visible surface color is often mistaken as a significant factor in total emissivity; it affects the spectral emissivity at visible wavelengths, which are often negligible when calculating the total emissivity.

Definition of emissivity in the English dictionary

The definition of emissivity in the dictionary is a measure of the ability of a surface to radiate energy; the ratio of the radiant flux emitted per unit area to that emitted by a black body at the same temperature ε.
