WHAT DOES ESCHEAT MEAN IN ENGLISH?

escheat

Escheat

Escheat /ɨsˈtʃiːt/ is a common law doctrine which transfers the property of a person who dies without heirs to the crown or state. It serves to ensure that property is not left in "limbo" without recognized ownership. It originally applied to a number of situations where a legal interest in land was destroyed by operation of law, so that the ownership of the land reverted to the immediately superior feudal lord.

Definition of escheat in the English dictionary

The first definition of escheat in the dictionary is the reversion of property to the Crown in the absence of legal heirs. Other definition of escheat is the reversion of property to the feudal lord in the absence of legal heirs or upon outlawry of the tenant. Escheat is also the property so reverting.
