WHAT DOES HYDROGEN EMBRITTLEMENT MEAN IN ENGLISH?

Hydrogen embrittlement

Hydrogen embrittlement is the process by which various metals, most importantly high-strength steel, become brittle and fracture following exposure to hydrogen. Hydrogen embrittlement is often the result of unintentional introduction of hydrogen into susceptible metals during forming or finishing operations and increases cracking in the material. This phenomenon was first described in 1875. Hydrogen embrittlement is also used to describe the formation of zirconium hydride and delayed hydride cracking. Use of the term in this context is common in the nuclear industry.

Definition of hydrogen embrittlement in the English dictionary

The definition of hydrogen embrittlement in the dictionary is the weakening of metal by the sorption of hydrogen during a pickling process, such as that used in plating.
