WHAT DOES MICROSATELLITE MEAN IN ENGLISH?

microsatellite

Microsatellite

This article is about the DNA sequence. For small orbiting spacecraft, see Microsatellite. Microsatellites, also known as simple sequence repeats or short tandem repeats, are repeating sequences of 2-5 base pairs of DNA. It is a type of Variable Number Tandem Repeat. Microsatellites are typically co-dominant. They are used as molecular markers in STR analysis, for kinship, population and other studies. They can also be used for studies of gene duplication or deletion, marker assisted selection, and fingerprinting.

Definition of microsatellite in the English dictionary

The definition of microsatellite in the dictionary is a section of DNA consisting of very short nucleotide sequences repeated many times, the number of repeats varying between members of the species: used as a marker in determining genetic diversity, identifying important genetic traits, and in forensics, population studies, and paternity studies.
