WHAT DOES NUTATION MEAN IN ENGLISH?

nutation

Nutation

Nutation is a rocking, swaying, or nodding motion in the axis of rotation of a largely axially symmetric object, such as a gyroscope, planet, or bullet in flight, or as an intended behavior of a mechanism. In an appropriate reference frame it can be defined as a change in the second Euler angle. If it is not caused by forces external to the body, it is called free nutation or Euler nutation. A pure nutation is a movement of a rotational axis such that the first Euler angle is constant. In spacecraft dynamics, precession is sometimes referred to as nutation.

Definition of nutation in the English dictionary

The first definition of nutation in the dictionary is a periodic variation in the precession of the earth's axis causing the earth's poles to oscillate about their mean position. Other definition of nutation is a periodic variation in the uniform precession of the axis of any spinning body, such as a gyroscope, about the horizontal. Nutation is also Also called: circumnutation. the spiral growth of a shoot, tendril, or similar plant organ, caused by variation in the growth rate in different parts.
