A paragraph is a self-contained unit of a discourse in writing dealing with a particular point or idea. A paragraph has 5 types. A paragraph consists of one or more sentences. Though not required by the syntax of any language, paragraphs are usually an expected part of formal writing, used to organize longer prose.

Definition of paragraph in the English dictionary

The first definition of paragraph in the dictionary is one of a series of subsections each usually devoted to one idea and each usually marked by the beginning of a new line, indentation, increased interlinear space, etc. Other definition of paragraph is the character ¶, used as a reference mark or to indicate the beginning of a new paragraph. Paragraph is also a short article in a newspaper.
