WHAT DOES PERICARP MEAN IN ENGLISH?

Fruit anatomy

Fruit anatomy is the internal structure of fruit, the mature ovary or ovaries from one or more flowers. In fleshy fruits, the outer and often edible layer is the pericarp, which is the tissue that develops from the ovary wall of the flower and surrounds the seeds. In some seemingly pericarp fruits, the edible portion is not derived from the ovary. For example, in the fruit of the ackee tree, the edible portion is an aril; and in the pineapple several tissues from the flower and stem are involved. A cavity inside the fruit that contain the ovules or seeds is called a cell.

Definition of pericarp in the English dictionary

The definition of pericarp in the dictionary is the part of a fruit enclosing the seeds that develops from the wall of the ovary. Other definition of pericarp is a layer of tissue around the reproductive bodies of some algae and fungi.
