WHAT DOES RECO-RECO MEAN IN ENGLISH?

Reco-reco

The reco-reco is a scraped percussion instrument related to the güiro used in Brazilian music. Traditionally, the reco-reco was made from a sawtooth notched cylindrical body made of bamboo or wood, and is played with a wooden stick. The instrument is used in many styles of Brazilian music, for example samba and related genres, and comes from the Afro-Brazilian music culture. For some time, reco-recos made of a metallic cylinder with springs attached and played with a metal stick, which results in a much louder sound. In some models, the sound box has a hole on the bottom, which can be covered with the hand to achieve different timbral possibilities. Today, reco-recos have also been made out of fiberglass.
