WHAT DOES ENDOCARDITIS MEAN IN SPANISH?

Endocarditis

Endocarditis is a disease that occurs as a result of inflammation of the endocardium, ie, an inflammatory process located in the lining of internal chambers and valves - either native or prosthetic-cardiac. It is characterized by the colonization or invasion of heart valves forming vegetations composed of platelets, fibrin and microcolonies of microorganisms and, occasionally, inflammatory cells. Other structures may be affected, such as the interventricular septum, tendon cords, mural endocardium or even intracardiac implants. There are several ways to classify endocarditis; the simplest one is based on its etiology, whether infectious or non-infectious, depending on whether it is a microbe that causes inflammation. This disease differs from inflammation of the heart muscle called myocarditis and an inflammation of the outer lining of the heart called pericarditis.
