Kibbutz

Kibutz

A kibbutz is an Israeli agricultural commune. Although there are collective enterprises in other countries, in none of them have voluntary communes played the important role that the kibbutz have played in Israel; In fact, the kibbutz were essential for the creation of the State of Israel. They are an experiment of unique character and part of one of the most important communal movements in history. They were founded at a time when independent agriculture was not practical. Forced by the need to develop a kind of communal life and inspired by their own socialist Zionist ideology, the kibbutz members developed a communal way of life that attracted the interest of world public opinion.
