Laticiferous
In Botany, laticífero is called that structure that secretes the latex, thick, creamy juice, generally of white-milky aspect. It can also be transparent as in Allium or take other colors. The function of the laticíferos is not clarified, could be an internal system of excretion, or of defense. The secretion is intracellular. The nature of latex is very varied, the aqueous matrix may contain carbohydrates, acids, salts, alkaloids, lipids, tannins, mucilages, gums, proteins, vitamins, starch grains, crystals, etc. There are laticifers in a genus of Pteridophyta and in about 12,500 species of 900 genera of dicotyledons and monocotyledons. They are characteristic of several families, such as: Asclepiadaceae, Apocynaceae, Caricaceae, Euphorbiaceae and Papaveraceae.
