Month

Mes

A month is each of the twelve periods of time, between 28 and 31 days, in which the year is divided. In Spanish each month has a name of Latin origin. Thus, June would be the month dedicated to Juno, July to July Caesar and August to Caesar Augustus. Also, the last four months have their meaning in numbers: September, October, November and December. This is because, in the beginning, the year began in March, when the Roman military campaign began. Thus September was indeed the seventh month of the year. The duration was established so that the months of 30 and 31 days were intercalated, with the exception of February, which retained its original duration of 28 days for religious reasons. The existence of twelve months is related to the twelve constellations of the zodiac and with the duodecimal numbering.
