WHAT DOES NIMBO MEAN IN SPANISH?
Nimbus
It is called a nimbus to the luminous circle that is placed or drawn behind and around the head of an image. ▪ If it only surrounds the forehead or the top of the head is called aura. ▪ If a cross with equal arms is inscribed in the circle, it is called a cruciferous nimbus, which belongs exclusively to a divine person. ▪ If the nimbus has a triangle shape, it is called a triangular nimbus that is unique to the person of the Father. The nimbus was used by the Egyptians, Greeks and Romans in images of gods and emperors as a symbol of power and greatness. Some argue that it was not in use in Christian iconology until the fourth century, and even then applied indifferently to the various effigies and personifications. However, the Christian nimbus is found in images located in the catacombs. The Christians already imitated the custom of the Romans, who surrounded with a luminous symbol to the gods and emperors. From the 7th century, it was generalized to all saints but still preserved for other characters until the twelfth century as seen in miniatures of some codices in ivories and mosaics.
Definition of nimbo in the Spanish dictionary
The first definition of nimbus in the dictionary of the real academy of the Spanish language is halo. Another meaning of nimbus in the dictionary is large, low and gray cloud, carrier of rain, snow or hail. Nimbus is also a circle that in certain medals, and particularly in those of the Lower Empire, surrounds the heads of some emperors.
