ब्रह्मपुराण संज्ञा पुं० [सं०] अठारह पुराणों में से एक । विशेष—पुराणों में इसका नाम पहले आने से कुछ लोग इसे आदि पुराण भी कहते हैं । मत्स्यादि पुराणों में इसके श्लोकों की संख्या दस हजार लिखी है । पर आजकल ७००० श्लोकों का ही यह पुराण मिलता है । जिस रुप में यह पुराण मिलता है, उस रुप में प्राचीन नहीं जान पड़ना । इसमें पुरुषोत्तम क्षेत्र का बहुत अधिक वर्णन हैं । जगन्नाथ जी और कोणादित्य के मंदिर आदि का ४० अध्यायों में वर्णन है । 'पूरुषोत्तम प्रासाद' से जगन्नाथ जी के विशाल मंदिर का अभिप्राय है जिसे गांगेय वंश के राजा चोडगंग ने वि० सं० ११३४ में बनवाया था । उत्तरखंड में मारवाड़ की बलजा नदी का माहोत्म्य है । कृष्ण की कथा भी आई है, पर अधिकतर वर्ण तीर्थों और उनके माहात्म्य का है ।
