घिया २ संज्ञा पुं० [हिं० घी]
१. एक प्रकार की बेल जिसके फलों की तरकारी होती है ।
विशेष—इसके पत्ते कुम्हड़े की तरह के गोल गोल और फूल
सफेद रंग के होते हैं । घिया दो प्रकार का होता है—एक
लंबे फल का और दूसरा गोल फल का, जिसे कददू कहते हैं ।
इसकी एक जाति कड़ुई भी होती है जिसे तितलौकी कहते
हैं । घिया बहुत मुलायम होता है तथा गुणा में शीतल और
रोगी के लिये पथ्य माना जाता है । इसके बीज का तेल
(कद्दू का तेल) सिर का दर्द दूर करने के लिये लगाया
जाता है । इसे लौकी या लौआ भी कहते हैं ।
