एक प्रकार का छोटा कीड़ा जो अनाज,
पौधे और लकड़ी आदि में लगता है ।
विशेष—इस कीड़े की कई जातियाँ होती हैं । लकड़ी का घुन
अनाज के घुन से भिन्न होता है । जिस लकड़ी या अनाज
में यह लगता है, उसे अंदर ही अदर खाते खाते खोखला कर
डालता है । इस कीड़े के भी रेशम के कीड़ी के समान कई
रूपांतर होते हैं । यह भी पहले गंडेदार लबे ढोले के रूप में
रहता है ।
मुहा०—घुन लगाना=(१) घुन का अनाज या लकड़ी को
खाना । (२) अदर ही अंदर किसी वस्तु का क्षीण होना ।
धीरे धीरे अप्रत्यक्ष रूप में किसी वस्तु का ह्रास होना ।
अदर ही अंदर छीजना या नष्ट होना । जैसे,—शरीर में
घुन लगना । रोजगार में घुन लगाना । जवानी में घुन लगना ।
