(उत्तर कांड) महाभारत और हरिवंश के अतिरिक्त गरुड़,
मत्स्य आदि पुराणों में इस स्थान का उल्लेख मिलता है । यहाँ
पर नीलकंठ महादेव का एक मंदिर है । प्रसिद्ध इतिहास-
लेखक फरिश्ता लिखता है कि कालिंजर का गढ़ केदारनाथ
नामक एक व्यक्ति ने ईसा की पहली शताब्दी में बनवाया
था । महमूद गजनवी ने सन् १०२२ में इस गढ़ को घेरा था ।
उस समय यहाँ का राजा नंद था जिसने एक वर्ष पहले कन्नौज
पर चढाई की थी ।
