एक छोटा कीड़ा जो सरसों, राई आदि की
फसल पर लगता है ।
विशेष—यह कीड़ा राई, सरसों, मूली आदि की फसल में उनके
डंठलों पर फूलने के समय या उसके पहले अंडे दे देता है,
जिससे फसल नितांत हीन होकर नष्ट हो जाती है । यह काले
रंग का परदार भुनगे के आकार का कीड़ा होता है और जाड़े के दिनों में फसल पर लगता है । यदि पानी बरस जाय तो ये
कीड़े नष्ट हो जाते हैं । प्राय: अधिक बदली के दिनों में, जब
पानी नहीं बरसता, ये कीड़े अंडे देते हैं और फसल के डंठलों
पर फुलों के आसपास उत्पन्न हो जाते हैं । इसे माही, माहो
आदि भी कहते हैं ।
मुहा०—माहूँ लगना = माहूँ का फसल के हरे डंठल पर
अंडे देना ।
