नाम । उ०—पुस मास सुनि साखन पै साई चलत सवार ।
गाहे कर बिन परवान तिय राग्यौ राग मलार ।—बिहारी
(शब्द०) ।
विशेष—कुछ आचार्य इसे छह प्रधान रागों के अंतर्भुत मानते हैं,
पर दुसर इसके बदले हिंडाल या मेघराग को स्थान देते हैं ।
यह राग वर्षाऋतु में गाया जाता है । बेलावली, पूरबी
कान्हड़ा, माधवी, काड़ा और केदारिका ये छह इसका रागिनयाँ
हैं । यह संपुर्ण जात का राग है और इसके गाने की
ऋतु वर्षा और समय रात का दुसरा पहर है । संगीत-
सार ने इस मेघ राग का छठा पुत्र माना है । इसका रंग
श्याम,आकृति भयानक, गल म साप का माला पहने,
फुलौ के आभुषण धारण किए सस्त्रीक बतलाया गया हे ।
ईसका, स्थान विंध्याचल, वस्त्र केले का पत्ता और मुकुट केले
को कलिका कहा जाती है । इसका अस्त्र धनुष, कटारा और
छुरा लिखा है ।
मुहा०—मलार गाना=बहुत प्रसत्र होकर कुछ कहना, विशेषतः
गाना । जैसे,—आप ता दिन भर घर पर बैठे मलार गाया
करते हैं ।
