१. आकाश में घनीभुत जलवाष्प जिससे वर्षा
होती है । बादल । उ०—कबहुँ प्रबल चल मारुत जहँ तहँ
मेघ उड़ाहि ।—तुलसी (शब्द०) । २. संगीत में छह् रागों
में से एक ।
विशेष—हनुमत् के मत से यह रोग ब्रह्मा के मस्तक से उत्पन्न
है और किसी के मते से आकाश से इसकी उत्पत्ति है । यह
ओड़व जातिका राग है; और इसमें ध, नि सा रे ग, ये पाँच
स्वर लगते हैं । हनुमत् के मत से इसका सरगम इस प्रकार
है—ध नि सा रे ग म प ध । वर्षाकाल में रात के पिछले
पहर इसे गाना चाहिए । इसकी स्त्रियाँ या रागिनियाँ हनुमत् के मत से मल्लारी, सोरठी, सारंगी वा हंसिका और मधुमाधवी
हैं । अन्य मत से रागनियाँ हैं—मल्लारी, देशी, सोरठ,
नाटिका, तरुणी और कादंविनी । इसके पुत्र—मल्लार, गौर,
कर्णाट, जलधर, मालाहक, तैलंग, कमल, कुसुम, मेघनाट,
सामंत, लुम, भुपति, नाट और बंगाल है ।
