मुहा०—पटरा कर देना = (१) किसी खडी़ चीज को गिराकर
पटरी की तरह जमीन के बराबर कर देना । (२) मनुष्य,
वृक्ष आदि को काटकर गिरा देना । मार काट कर फैला ।
देना या बिछा देना । जैसे,—शाम तक उसने सारे का सारा
जंगल काट कर पटरा कर दिया । (३) चौपट कर देना ।
तबाह कर देना । सर्वनाश कर देना । जैसे,—इस वर्ष के
अकाल ने तो पटरा कर दिया । पटरा होना = मरकर गिर
जाना । मर जाना । नष्ट हो जाना । स्वाहा हो जाना ।
जैसे,—इस साल हैजे से हजारों पटरा हो गए ।
