पुराणोक्त एक प्रसिद्ध मणि ।
विशेष—भागवत पुराण में इस मणि की कथा इस प्रकार है —यह
मणि सत्राजित् नामक यादव ने अपनी तरस्या से सूर्यनारायण
को प्रसन्न कर प्राप्त की थी । यह सूर्य के समान प्रभाविशिष्ट थी ।
यह प्रति दिन आठ भार (१ भार=२० तुला=२००० पल)
सोना देती थी । जिस स्थान या नगर में यह रहती थी, वहाँ
रोग, शोक, दुःख, दारिद्रय आदि का नाम न रहता था । यादवों
को कहने से श्रीकृष्ण ने राजा उग्रसेन के लिये यह मणि माँगी;
पर सत्राजित् ने नहीं दी । सत्राजित् से उसके भाई प्रसेन ने यह
मणि ले ली और कंठ में धारण कर आखेट करने गया । वहाँ
एक सिंह ने उसे मार डाला । मणि लेकर सिंह एक गुफा में
घुसा । गुफा में रीछों का राजा जांबवंत रहता था । मणि के
प्रकाश से गुफा को प्रकाशमान् देखकर जांबवंत आ पहुँचा और
उसने सिंह को मारकर मणि हस्तगत की । इधर श्रीकृष्ण पर
यह कलंक लगा कि उन्होंने प्रसेन को मारकर मणि ले ली है ।
यह सुनकर खोजते हुए श्री कृष्ण जांबवंत की गुफा में पहुँचे और
उसे परास्त कर उन्होंने मणि का उद्धार किया । जांबवंत ने
श्रीकृष्ण को साक्षात् भगवान् जानकर अपनी कन्या जांबवंती
उनको अर्पण की । श्रीकृष्ण ने लौटकर वही मणि सत्राजित् को
दे दी । सत्राजित् इसलिये बहुत लज्जित और दुःखी हुआ कि मैने
श्रीकृष्ण पर झूठा कलंक लगाया था । उसने भक्तिभाव से
अपनी कन्या सत्यभामा और मणि श्रीकृष्ण को भेंट की । सत्यभामा
को तो श्रीकृष्ण ने अंगीकार कर लिया, पर मणि लौटा-
दी । इसके अनंतर सत्राजित् को मार शतधन्वा ने उक्त मणि ले
ली । अंत में शतधन्वा श्रीकृष्ण के हाथों मारा गया और मणि
सत्यभामा को मिल गई । कहते हैं, श्रीकृष्ण ने भादों की चौथ
का चंद्रमा देख था, इसी से उनपर मणि के हरण का झूठा
कलंक लगा था । इसी से भादों महीने की चौथ का चंद्रमा
लोग नहीं देखते ।
