१. एक प्रकार का
बहुत उत्तम ऊन जो हिमालय पर काश्मीर से लेकर नैपाल
तक पाई जानेवाली एक पहाडी़ बकरी के शरीर पर होता है । पशम । पशमीना । उ०—तूस तुराई में दुरे दूरो
जाय न त्यागि ।—राम० धर्म०, पृ० २३४ ।
विशेष—यह पहाडी़ बकरी हिमालय पर बहुत ऊँचाई तक, बर्फ के निकट तक, पाई जाती है । यह ठंढे से ठंढे स्थानों में रह
सकती है और काश्मीर से लेकर मध्य एशिया में अलटाई
पर्वत तक मिलती है । इसके शरीर पर घने मुलायम रोयों की
बडी़ मोटी तह होती है जिसके भीतरी ऊन को काशमीर में
असली तूस या पशम कहते हैं । यह दुशालों में दिया जाता है । खालिस तूस का भी शाल बनता है जिसे तूसी कहते हैं ।
ऊपर के ऊन या रोएँ से या तो रस्सियाँ बटी जाती हैं या
पट्टू नाम का कपडा़ बुना जाता है । तूसवाली बकरियाँ
लद्दाख में जाडे़ के दिनों में बहुत उतरती हैं और मारी
जाती हैं ।
