१. फलित ज्योतिष के अनुसार
सत्ताईस योगों में से पहला योग ।
विशेष—आरंभ के पाँच दंडों को छोड़कर शुभ कार्य के लिये यह
योग बहुत अच्छा समझा जाता है । कहते हैं, इस योग
में जन्म लेनेवाला मनुष्य सब बातों में स्वाधीन और भाई बंधु
आदि से सदा सुखी रहता है ।
२. विस्तार । ३. बाधा । विघ्न । ४. साहित्यदर्पण के अनुसार
नाटक का एक प्रकार का अंक जो प्रायः गर्भांक के समीप
होता है । उ०—प्राज अमरता का जीवित हूँ मैं वह भीषण
जर्जर दंभ, आह सर्ग के प्रथम अंक का अधम पात्र मय सा
विष्कंभ ।—कामायनी, पृ० १८ ।
विशेष—जो कथा पहले हो चुकी हो अथवा जो अभी
होनेवाली हो, उसकी इसमें मध्यम पात्रों द्वारा सूचना दी
जाती है । यह दो प्रकार का होता है—शुद्ध और संकीर्णा ।
जब एक या अनेक मध्यम पात्र इसका प्रयोग करते हैं,
तब यह शुद्ध कहलाता है । और जब मध्यम तथा नीच पात्रों
द्वारा इसका प्रयोग होता है, तब इसे संकीर्ण कहते है । शुद्ध
विष्कंभ में मध्यम पात्रों का वार्तालाप संस्कृत भाषा में और
संकीर्ण विष्कंभ में मध्यम तथा नीच पात्रों का वार्तालाप
प्राकृत भाषा में होता है । शुद्ध का उदाहरण मालतीमाधव के
पाँचवें अंक में कुंडलाकृत प्रयोग और संकीर्ण का रामाभिनंद
में क्षपणक और कापालिककृत प्रयोग है ।
